There is a time for everything! A time to watch fun family flicks and a time for action-adventure. A time for informative documentaries and a time for singalong musicals. A time for a cozy mystery and a time for watching ‘shoot ‘em up’ western flicks. And then, there is a time for heartwarming movies that remind us of the power of friendship and kindness.
There's no doubt ‘kindness’ movies are good to share! Whether watching with the kids or your closest gal pals, these four heartwarming movies recommendations will melt the heart and wet the eyes.
Pay it forward is a film based loosely on the novel of the same name by Catherine Ryan Hyde. It tells how 11-year-old Trevor McKinney started a goodwill movement known as "pay it forward". To pay it forward means to repay a kindness received with a good deed to someone else. Throughout the movie, we see the beauty of kindness and the overwhelming effect on families and communities. It is a fantastic demonstration that no matter how old you are, you have the power to make a difference.
Another film based on a book, The Blind Side with Sandra Bullock, Kathy Bates and Tim McGraw is a sports drama film based on a true story of Michael Oher. An American footballer who grew up in an impoverished community. With help from adoptive parents Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, Oher went on to play in the National Football League. It is truly Leigh Anne's awareness of Oher and Sean’s compliance with his wife that leads to a demonstration of sacrificial love. Leigh Anne inspires us to let compassion lead, and although our compassion may not lead to adoption, it can change the lives of others.
Bridesmaids, an American comedy, centres on Annie, a failed small business owner in her thirties, who suffers a series of setbacks after being asked to serve as maid of honour for her best friend, Lillian. Throughout the film, we see the continuous competitiveness between bridesmaids Annie and Helen. Both desire to prove that they are closer to Lillian until the tension comes to a head and both women break down. From here, we see the power of vulnerability in making and maintaining friendships and how honesty and openness can strengthen bonds and move relationships forward.
It could happen to you with Nicolas Cage, Bridget Fonda and Rosie Perez is a romantic comedy-drama set in New York City. It is the story of a police officer who wins the lottery and splits his winnings with a waitress. Based on a true story, we see the power of love, friendship, generosity and how moments can affect a lifetime. We particularly love this film for its ability to demonstrate that life is better when you share it and that life is not about money or success or fame, but what money can not buy, connection. We could watch this one over and over.
And so, we say, pour kindness in. Pour it to your eyes and ears until you feel it drop into your heart. From there, you will have enough to let flow out of your life and into the world. We are certainly watching movies like these, will give you the inspiration you need to keep loving as you do and remind you of the power of friendship and kindness.
