Around here, we love all things new. That feeling when new boxes are delivered, that first whiff of fresh coffee as we start the day, the start of a new sales promotion or the release of a new product. There is always a deep sense of anticipation and excitement that lifts us out of the everyday tasks when new things begin.
That's why we are looking forward to the new year. We have high hopes for 2023. We’re not going to let the hardships and disappointments of years gone by taint our dreams no matter how bizarre the new decade has been so far.
“We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us. The old skin has to be shed before the new one can come.”
— Joseph Campbell
It’s no secret, things don’t always go to plan. We love this quote by Joseph Campbell because it not only acknowledges the reality we live in but it also helps us to see that the life that is waiting for us can be just as good, if not better than what we first hoped for.
“The chief beauty about time is that you cannot waste it in advance. The next year, the next day, the next hour are lying ready for you, as perfect, as unspoiled, as if you had never wasted or misapplied a single moment in all your life. You can turn over a new leaf every hour if you choose.”
― Arnold Bennett
This quote gives us goosebumps! Arnold Bennett writes about new beginnings so beautifully. The thought that our future is waiting for us, that there are rooms and hearts being prepared right at this very moment that we will (not too long from now) walk into is nothing short of delightful.
“Holding on is believing that there’s only a past; letting go is knowing that there’s a future.”
– Daphne Rose Kingma
Wow! No other quote has caused us to want to move on like this one. It makes us ask that very important question, ‘what do I believe about my future?’ Beliefs shape our emotional world which in turn determines how we act. Cultivating a healthy mindset is step one in setting ourselves up for a beautiful new year.
“Forgiveness says you are given another chance to make a new beginning.”
– Desmond Tutu
We always have time to read anything Desmond Tutu said and like many of the words that came out of his mouth this quote is potent with wisdom. The fact is, this new year isn’t going to be anything special if we allow unforgiveness to harbour in our hearts. We implore you, please decide to go on the journey to forgiveness and set yourself free.
Every year you make a resolution to change yourself. This year, make a resolution to be yourself. - Unknown
These words are nothing short of refreshing. The new year is not about adding things to our lives in an effort to make ourselves better. It’s about what we can chip away to allow the real us to emerge.
Any new beginning is forged from the shards of the past, not from the abandonment of the past. - Craig Lounsbrough.
We are builders, baby! We take our yesterdays and we use them to make today. If your yesterday wasn’t so good, (maybe it was really bad) firstly, big love to you, the fact that you are here is amazing. Secondly, learn and grow and allow whatever you endured to strengthen you, make you wise and determined to help those who are experiencing what you went through. Today is shaping tomorrow, 2022 is birthing 2023, treasure everyday.
Don’t live the same year 75 times and call it a life. - Robin Sharma
We know it feels impossible to be able to live the same year over and over, but at the heart of this quote is a plea to step out of our comfort zone, try new things, meet new people, experience the length and breadth of earth and write an epic story with our lives. There are years that feel repeated (the season of raising a family can at times feel extremely mundane) however, we can add a little wonder to even the most ordinary days by continuing to be brave and follow our curiosity.
Enter this new year with gratitude for this new chance to create your dreams. - Avina Celeste.
Let us not forget. Life is a gift. There are those who will not see 2023. That is their story. We cannot change it. We can, however, continue to cultivate a perspective of life that is oozing with gratitude. It is a chance to bring forth that which burns within us, to love the world and leave our mark. We are here for a reason. We have significant work to do. Grab every new beginning with both hands.
