Let’s face it. We all have days when we need a little extra love.
Instead of trying to squeeze it out of others, why not encourage yourself.
Writing a list of your favourite self love quotes and affirmations can be useful on those ‘not so amazing’ days when you feel low.
And so with the intention to inspire your own list, we delight in sharing some of our most loved, self love quotes. We hope they remind you of how capable and valuable you are.
First, words from the queen of quotes, American poet, memoirist, civil rights activist, Maya Angelou.
Read that again.
Let it sink in.
Enough, meaning - sufficient, acceptable, worthy, as you are, regardless of how you feel, what they said or what you did.
You are loved and more than enough!
Author Sue Monk Kidd echoes Angelou:
This doesn’t mean you have been measured, but that you are, who you are meant to be. All that you need is inside of you. You do not need to be anywhere else, to grow into the person you are becoming.
That right there is some serious self love; some serious truth.
But there's more.
This from artist and poet, Morgan Harper Nichols...
Did you get that?
Sometimes emotions lie. Acknowledge this by refusing to side with feelings of inadequacy. Don’t betray yourself by agreeing with a negative narrative. Be devoted to the truth of who you are.
Author and activist, Glennon Doyle, puts it like this:
And if we could add to that.
Being kind to yourself is critical.
Know your worth gorgeous, wear it! You are LOVED!!!
Researcher and professor Brene Brown gives good advice. We know this concept is life changing.
Think.
What is the last thing you said to yourself about yourself?
If it was unkind, don’t put yourself down for putting yourself down, just notice it, apologise to yourself and replace unkind self talk with kind self talk.
Not only is it important to talk to yourself kindly, it is imperative that we listen to what our body and heart say.
Television host, producer, author and philanthropist Oprah Winfrey reminds us that stilling ourselves is a way we can practice self care.
I know this isn't easy with the demands of everyday life. We often fall into the trap of thinking self love is selfish. We tell ourselves spending time, money, energy on others is more honourable.
This is not true.
Author and Editor, L.R Knosts frames it well...
You to deserve kindness, loyalty, truth, from yourself and time with yourself.
It's a juggle but it’s just what you need to cultivate a healthy sense of self worth.
Take these quotes, write them on your heart, recall them to memory, wear them and witness how words of love free the self.
Be inspired wear words that will nourish your soul!
