Gorgeous Poppies Jewellery to commemorate ANZAC Day

Established in 1923, Legacy is a charity that cares for the families of Australian Defence Force men and women who have lost their lives or their health as a result of their service. Legacy tells the story of their origin by saying, ‘Realising the dire circumstances of the tens of thousands of veterans, widows and children left behind, those who returned set out to help them. Major General Sir John Gellibrand formed the Remembrance Club in Hobart. Another returning soldier, Lieutenant General Sir Stanley Savige, was inspired to establish a similar club in Melbourne which was named Legacy.’

We here at Sister & Soul, take pride in donating to this iconic Australian charity every year. Proceeds from our ‘Poppies’ collection are sent to support the work ofLegacy who offer programs and services aimed at providing social, financial and developmental support to young families and children, ageing and vulnerable widows as well as dependents with a disability who have suffered first hand from the effects of war.

Observed on the 25th of April, ANZAC day is a national day of remembrance that broadly commemorates all who served in the war. According to the Australian War memorial website, Poppies are worn on ANZAC day as ‘red poppies were among the first plants to spring up in the devastated battlefields of northern France and Belgium. In soldiers' folklore, the vivid red of the poppy came from the blood of their comrades soaking the ground.’

And so, because we and many of our regular customers want to wear poppies on ANZAC day, because our grandfathers and great grandfathers served so bravely in war, because it is a great opportunity to raise money and awareness for Legacy - the ‘Poppies” Collection is here again.
